Heritage White Pine Weaving
A tradition lovingly continued.
Experience the beauty of this traditional art form passed down through generations.
White Pine weaving originated with people of the Appalachia, composed historically of native Cherokee joined in the 1700s by Scotch-Irish Immigrants. White pine weaving is a labor-intensive art form taking 120+ hours to create. Pine needles are collected, prepared and woven. The basket is decorated, coated with melted beeswax and baked to preserve. The final product is hand-rubbed to finish.
Traditionally Appalachian pine art was embellished with simple clay beads. I aim to pay homage to these roots but elevate the design by using ethically-sourced semi-precious gemstones. Each design is unique, and lovingly crafted.
This artwork is created to honor those before us; our forebears, who even as they struggled, strove to create beauty in their world. It is my hope that others will appreciate the history and play a part in preserving this critically endangered folk art.
